4 micro-pro user guide v1.04 har dwar e installation instr uctions over view the micr o-pr o pr ogrammer connects to any spar e pc parallel (lpt) por t. if you only have one parallel por t and this is in use for eg. a printer , it may be possible to add a second parallel por t to your machine by inser ting a new i/o car d. if you ar e limited to one parallel por t eg. on a laptop, then it is necessar y to r emove any other devices connected to that parallel por t for the duration of using the micr o-pr o. for fur ther har dwar e installation help, please r efer to the installation t r oubleshooting guide . connect the pr ogrammer to the pc as follows: 1 plug male end of pc parallel cable into spar e pc parallel por t 2 plug female end of pc parallel cable into 25-way connector on the pr ogrammer 3 plug power jack into pr ogrammer 4 plug mains adaptor into suitable mains supply the pr ogrammer red power led should now be illuminated 1 2 4 psu input 3
5 micro-pro user guide v1.04 the micr o-pr o pr ogrammer is supplied with 'micr o-pr o for w indows' pc driver softwar e. this softwar e is supplied on one 3.5" floppy disk. to inst all 'micro-pro for windows' softw are: ? boot the pc into w indows envir onment (w in 3.1 or w in 95 ) ? inser t 'micr o-pr o for w indows' disk into floppy disk drive (a: / b:) ? select the 'run...' command fr om the 'file' menu in the pr ogram manager ? select 'br owse' and navigate to the floppy drive (a: / b:) ? select 'micr opr o.exe' ? select the 'ok' button the softwar e installation pr ogram should now display an intr oductor y scr een. please follow the on-scr een pr ompts in or der to complete the softwar e installation pr ocess. for mor e detailed infor mation on which libraries to install, please r efer to the device suppor t section. on completion, the installation pr ogram will install the 'micr o-pr o' icon within a new pr ogram gr oup called 'micr o-pr o'. t o launch the softwar e, simply double-click on the 'micr o-pr o' icon. softwar e installation
6 micro-pro user guide v1.04 the micr o-pr o pr ogrammer plugs into a spar e parallel por t of any ibm compatible pc including the majority of laptop machines. the pr ogrammer should operate cor r ectly in the following parallel por t (lpt) modes: i. uni-dir ectional mode ii. bi-dir ectional (enhanced or epp) mode however , if the pr ogrammer fails to be detected it is wor th switching the lpt mode between uni and bi-dir ectional using the pc bios and then r e-tr ying the communication test. to select the correct p arallel por t (lpt): i. fr om the menu bar select
